Is my NFC badge compatible with TaqtOne?

Is my NFC badge compatible with TaqtOne?

Info
By default, TaqtOne terminals are configured to accept Taqt NFC badges only. If you want to use your own badges, please check on this page whether they are compatible, and let the Taqt team know when you place your order so that support for external badges can be enabled.

TaqtOne NFC readers recognize NFC badges whose identifier (UID) is 7 bytes or less, i.e. 14 hexadecimal characters. This is the case for most badges and tags on the market (NTAG, MIFARE Ultralight, MIFARE Classic…).

Badges with a UID longer than 7 bytes are not supported at this time.

This page helps you find out whether your badge is compatible, whether you need to contact us to check, or whether it will not work.

ISO 15693 / NFC-V (ICODE, ST25TV, ST25DV…)8 bytes (16 characters)Not compatible

"To be checked" means that compatibility depends on the exact model: only the actual UID size of your badge can tell (see below).

How to find the UID size of your badge

All you need is an NFC-enabled smartphone, no special equipment required.

  1. Install a free NFC reader app, for example NFC Tools (Android and iOS).
  2. Start a scan and hold the badge against the back of the phone.
  3. Find the "Serial number" field, for example 04:A2:3B:1C:5D:80:6E.
  4. Count the pairs of characters: each pair is 1 byte. Ignore the ":" separators.
Displayed UIDBytesResult
4 pairs (8 characters)4Compatible
7 pairs (14 characters)7Compatible
8 pairs (16 characters)8Not compatible
10 pairs (20 characters)10Not compatible

The app also shows the badge type (for example "NTAG215" or "MIFARE Classic 1K"), which you can look up in the table above.

What to do based on the result

Your badge is compatible (UID of 7 bytes or less): you can use it with TaqtOne. Make sure to let the Taqt team know that you want to use external badges.

Your badge needs to be checked (type marked "To be checked", or you cannot read the UID): contact TaqtOne support with the badge type, its UID as shown in the app, and if possible a photo of the badge. We will confirm whether it is supported.

Your badge is not compatible (UID of 8 bytes or more): it will not work properly with TaqtOne at this time. We recommend choosing NTAG or MIFARE Ultralight badges, which are widely available and fully compatible. If switching badges is not an option, contact us to discuss it.

Frequently asked questions

My badge is detected by the reader, so it is compatible, right?
Not necessarily. A badge with a UID longer than 7 bytes can be detected, but its identifier is only partially transmitted. Two different badges could then be recognized as the same one.

Will my building access badges work?
It depends on their technology. Many access badges are MIFARE Classic or DESFire: check the UID using the method above, or contact us.

I want to order new badges, which ones should I choose?
Go for NTAG213, NTAG215, NTAG216 or MIFARE Ultralight: 7-byte UID, inexpensive and easy to find.

The displayed UID changes with every scan, is that normal?
Some badges (often bank cards or smartphones) use a random UID for privacy reasons. They cannot be used as a fixed identifier with TaqtOne.
